Appriss extends help to law enforcement in storm-ravaged Louisiana

Satellite phones will aid police in recovery efforts

Louisville, Ky. --- -- The employees of Appriss Inc. are doing their part to help law enforcement in the New Orleans area to stay connected in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

In the days following the hurricane and subsequent flooding, Appriss staff attempted to make contact with the company's clients in the effected areas. "After several days, we reached someone at the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement to ask them what Appriss could do to help," said Appriss CEO Doug Cobb. "We were told that their most critical need was for satellite phones."

Employees immediately went to work locating 10 satellite phones, which were sent to Baton Rouge by private plane on Saturday. The donation is valued at about $25,000, including the cost of equipping each phone with a 6,000-minute package.

The phones will be used by New Orleans police officers to aid in rescue and recovery efforts. "We're happy to be able to help out in this small way," Cobb said.
